Please reach us using our contact form if you cannot find an answer to your question.
No. You just need to have a willingness to learn something new.
Contact us using the web form and let us know you're interested in getting started, and if you're interested in weightlifting, powerlifting, general strength, etc. If you don't know, that's fine too, just let us know you want to get started being more awesome.
Once you've expressed interest, we will set up a discovery phone call to find out more about what you're looking for. And then the next step would be to set up a time to meet at the gym so we can see how you move doing some sample lifts, and to see if we can work together.
Current coaching hours are:
Personal training sessions can be scheduled outside those hours if necessary, once you have begun training. Online training sessions can also be scheduled for existing athletes, but I'm not taking on new online clients at the moment.
Gym members may also use the gym outside of coaching hours once they are familiar with the lifts involved in their program.
JP Weightlifting is co-located with The Ogre Compound at 404 Willis Pass, Mt. Juliet, TN. It looks like a house from the front but the entire basement and the whole back addition that is shaped like a barn has lifting equipment and training platforms. It is totally heated and air conditioned so you will be comfortable enough to train. There is WiFi, a public bathroom, and a refrigerator which is stocked with water bottles and electrolyte drinks.
No. You will have a program that you can complete at the gym, at your own home gym at your house, or at whatever gym you use near your house or your job if our gym is not your main gym. If necessary you will send in videos of your lifts to make sure you're making progress. Of course you will probably make the most progress if you come to the gym during coaching hours so any technique issues can be addressed, and any questions answered.
Yes. We have programs for general strength/general physical preparedness (GPP) for all ages, and we have programs for kids sports performance, which focus on good basic movement patterns such as squats, deadlifts, power cleans, push ups, pull ups and core work. We can also provide powerlifting programs that focus on squat, bench press, and deadlift.
Your training program will be delivered in the Train Heroic app, which is free for athletes. Once you become an JP Weightlifting athlete, you will be sent an invitation to create a Train Heroic account. Then you can load the app on your phone and log in to see the program. The program will be delivered weekly for new athletes and in program blocks for existing athletes, ie. a few weeks at a time. There will be written instructions and videos within the app to help you with new exercises and what to focus on.
We will discuss that in person based on what program you will be on. We have monthly memberships and personal training sessions that fit most budgets.
New memberships will be on PayPal Subscription and you will be sent a link once we determine which program you will be on. Individual sessions can be paid by PayPal or Venmo at the time of the training session.
Yes. Drop ins are $20 per session and are preferred during active coaching hours. We can work with you on a price for gym access for multiple sessions if you will be in town longer.
Yes. We have athletes of all ages, genders, sizes and levels of experience. From brand new to higher level athletes who compete at a national or international level. Everyone is encouraging to one another.
Yes! We can schedule regular technique personal training sessions to augment your main CrossFit training.
We expect folks to treat other athletes at the gym as well or better than they would want to be treated themselves, at the gym and also at gym member events. We expect folks to put all equipment back the way they found it.
We hope you like dogs because sometimes there are dogs in the gym. If you would like to bring your dog from time to time, let us know and we will confirm which times might be best.
We do coach people at weightlifting competitions and powerlifting competitions. It currently does not cost extra for athletes on our team, although depending on any travel involved, we may need to discuss options. We do also foster coach athletes at competitions and while we don't ask for compensation for that, we won't say no to a donation to the gym or a gift card.
If we are running a competition, we do expect gym members to help volunteer if they are able.
You may send them via Messenger app, a Google drive that we share, or as attachments to the Train Heroic app comments. Please use a view so that your entire body can be seen, and the weight on the bar, and either use a 45 degree angle or directly from the side or front depending on the lift and possibly on what has been requested for you to do.
